Choose Your Flight
Welcome to “Choose Your Flight”. Regardless of the duration or scope of your Santa Fe Top Gun adventure you, or the recipient of your gift, will be immersed in the thrill of flight, the nostalgia of the WWII era, and the spectacular geological beauty of the Santa Fe area. I hope that your visit here means that we will soon be flying together. The below information regarding flight profiles is for conceptualization only. Decisions relating to both mission objectives and duration are customer driven, and are often not made until the preflight briefing in the SNJ Squadron Ready Room. Even then, the plan may be subject to modification in flight. We call that tactical flexibility! In addition to providing an overview of the mission the briefing, typically one hour in duration, is used to provide instruction, and even historical context, in order to enrich the totality of the Santa Fe Top Gun experience. To that end, on any flight, the customer may choose not to fly the plane at all, but rather to sit back, enjoy the ride, open the canopy, and take incredible pictures of nature’s beauty accessible to few. Time is allowed at the conclusion of your flight for debrief and planeside photographs. The participation of friends and family is strongly encouraged.
Profile A. This is a thirty minute flight, take-off to landing. Although any routing within time constraints is offered, this profile typically involves flight along the beautiful Rio Grande gorge, and a sampling of graceful aerobatics, to include a minimum of a loop and an aileron roll. Air traffic permitting, all flights generally conclude with a “carrier break” arrival at the airport. The customer is offered the controls of the aircraft just after take-off, and may retain control until reentering the aircraft traffic pattern for landing. He/she will typically perform ground reference navigation, s-turns, climbs, descents, steep turns and aerobatics. Instructor assistance is always available, and is rendered consistent with the desire and capability of the student, and of course safety. The scenery along the route is spectacular. $325.
Profile B. This forty five minute flight is our most popular. Please read Profile A above, and add the following: The additional fifteen minutes allows sufficient time for flight past ancient Anasazi cliff dwellings, and into the beautiful Valle Grande crater west of Los Alamos. Leaving the Valle, and the Jemez Mountains, enjoy flying down a spectacular canyon “chute” , framed on either side by beautifully sculpted “tent rock” formations and other incredible works of nature 14 million years in the making. As well as the additional awe inspiring scenery, the extra time, compared to Profile A, allows the customer to further savor his experience at the controls of the SNJ’s 600 horses of Pratt and Whitney radial engine performance, while developing even greater skill, confidence, and sense of accomplishment. $450.
Profile C. This is a sixty minute flight. Profile C allows for the complete circumnavigation of the Santa Fe area, including not only the areas detailed in A and B above, but also portions of the turquoise trail, including Madrid and Golden, the beautiful Galisteo basin, historic Lamy and Glorieta. Continue north along the Sangre de Christo range and the City of Santa Fe to the Espanola Valley. $575.
Aerobatics A, B, and C, are flights of 30, 45 and 60 minutes duration respectively, the objectives of which are the pursuit of mastery of precision aerobatics. Maneuvers taught and practiced are those in the student naval aviator syllabus, including the wing over, aileron roll, loop, immelman and ½ cuban eight. Call for front seat qualifications. Help us with additional operating cost by adding $15, $30, or $45 to the cost of basic Profiles A, B, and C of equal duration.
